Perth Western Australia
Perth is located in South Western Australia and is the commercial hub for the state's extensive mining and other resource industries. It is also the gateway to the Margaret River region, one of the premium wine growing districts of Australia, and to the former whaling town of Albany. Perth operates in the same time zone as most of Asia and is a significant entry point to that region.
Cultural Issues and Perth
Perth is a multicultural city which is located on land traditionally occupied by the Nyoongar Aboriginal people. Members of the Aboriginal community are active members of the community and have shared the land with immigrants since 1825 when the British established the foundations of a colony in the area.
Since that time, Perth has developed as the major regional city on the western coast of Australia with a diverse population, although immigrants from the United Kingdom make up about 12 per cent of the total population. It is sometimes said that this large proportion of British people is related to the fact that Perth and its port city, Fremantle, were the first stops after ships carrying immigrants crossed the Indian Ocean, and by then they had had enough sea-sickness and were ready to make any landfall!.
